Sculpture 1
About Me:
Amber Brown
12th grade I´m excited to learn about ceramics and clay. I want to learn how to mold things and create 3d art pieces. I´m used to just drawing so this will be a big change of scenery for me. I want to one day make my own dishes set when i get my own place so i hope this class gives me some knowledge. I´m good at drawing and i love abstract art the most because i don´t have to think as hard and put a lot of pressure on myself. i have a homemade earring business where i turn my drawings into earrings key chains necklaces and bookmarks! |
Inspiring Ceramic Artists:
Bridget Fox :
-Describe what their rattles look like.
Very abstarct, color ful wacky patterns , they look alien like , they have creature-like foots.
What is the story behind their work?
Her desire for a creative life profession using her hands drove her to pursue an art degree at the University of Georgia where she received a BFA in Ceramics in 1996.
What are they inspired by?
Inspired by the textures, patterns and unusual organisms of nature I create a rare undersea garden of earthly treasures, cerebral concoctions and cosmic delights.
Carol Lebreton :
- earthy and organic
story behind their work is: I touched a vein of soft yielding clay on the side of a freshly cut dirt road. That early encounter evolved into a consuming passion which, enriched by a childhood lived in the tropics, continues to fuel and guide my creative expression.
- what inspires their work is : draws influence from plant and animal life and is fascinated by the small complexities of the micro aspects of nature. Her work continues to evolve as she experiments
How are the artists similar and
different? they both have nature like influences and pieces are different from typical pottery.
What stands out to you about each of
their styles? carol: colors and tones , bridget: creature and animal like parts!
What is something you can use in your
design? animal parts and earth tones

Reflection: I really love this piece. i think the colors are nice together. I feel like different shapes i had to make came to gether really well to create the bunny from the rears to the shape of the body. The lines on face add to the bunnies expression and creates the tired look i wanted. i think it can be smoother and neater but overall I'm happy with how it came out. 6/10 in my opinion.

Reflection: The different levels and shapes on my slab really gives it a fun look. When i look at it i really hear the song i used for inspiration. The colors of yellow and pick give sort of a happy feeling. I like how the bottom left corner subtly looks like a face. The different shapes almost make it look like different land fields around rivers. I'm over all very happy with how this came out. 7/10 in my opinion.

Reflection: This is my first Mug. Im very Proud of it. I like my use of different shapes and the design. Creating a teeth design on a black and white mug seemed like a hood idea considering teeth are white and thats what the design was going to be. The clear glaze made it come to life. The hardest part about making this was getting the sides even and making it equally wide all around. I do appreciate my rectangular handle because most mugs have curved handles. Overall very happy with the out come and i would give myself a 6/10 .
Altered Book Project:
IN PROGRESS
FINAL
Reflection : I feel like the different elements in my sculpture came together really well. I love how painting the wood texture design on the base of the book gave a table feel and brought more life to the objects on top. i think the 3 basic shapes look nicely together and are placed well.( the square menu round plate and triangle napkin) Very proud of my creativity throughout this process and my use of hot glue and paint for the jelly. I think adding texture to the inside of the donut and the glues on flour brought it to life. A lot of people were saying " I almost want to eat it" and that's exactly what i wanted. Not bad for my first food sculpture. 10/10 in my opinion.

Reflection: This is the night of chaos and living up to its name it was very chaotic to make. I didn't have a plan .. not one thought in my head before and while making this. I knew i wanted to hang a moon and then all of a sudden i got the idea to make dancing people out of wire. Very proud of how the little people and the tin foil moon came out.
Wearable Art Project
Tongue Necklace
Reflection: I really enjoyed this project. The hardest part were getting the clay pieces to look like tongues. i think adding texture and gloss really helped the look. I think it could be better but i did a pretty good job.
Animal Head Sculpture
In Progress Photos:
Final: Wilbur Moody Pig
Reflection:el This project is my personal favorite. Ive never really sculpted a realistic animal head and now that i have i think my life is complete. The hardest part about this project was getting the eyes to look even but then i realized nature isn’t perfect and just tried my best Overall i'm very proud of this work for my first time.
